The electrical resistivity tomography is an optimal survey method of network of optimal network to [i1] detect subsurface targets using suitable arrays. Different optimization methods such as Guass-Newton and quasi-Newton methods are used to model and interpret acquired data.
In this research, since there is a sufficient resistivity contrast between water qanat and its surrounding area exists in the qanat, it was selected as an appropriate target to considerfor investigation of advantages and disadvantages of electericalelectrical tomography method. The resistivity surveys were carried out into a regular network by 2-D and 3-D data acquisition methods. RES2DINV and RES3DINV computer softwares were used for 2-D and 3-D modeling respectively. Finally, in order to a better represent the resultsation, Voxler graphical software was used.
Whereas Although the resulted qanat location is ambiguous in modeled 2-D and 3-D resistivity sections, it can clearly be determined by the resistivity decrease due to the wetness infiltration around the qanat. The relative sizes of the sediments and the clay content can qualitatively be estimated from the obtained resistivity sections.
