Computer methods developed for optimization of the mine layout and production scheduling are usually based on economic block models. The calculation of economic block value in underground mines is much more complicated than in open pit mines. That is why optimization algorithms for underground mines are less developed. One of the most important factors in calculating block economic value is the underground mining method. Also economic value of a block is related to the block's position in underground mining methods. The goal in this research is to determine the block economic value based on the block position. In this research, costs are divided in two groups: position based costs and independent costs. Position based costs include hauling and hoisting costs, while other costs like drilling, blasting, filling and general costs are categorized as independent costs. Independent costs rely on underground mining methods. A program was written using MATLAB software tool, based on the equations developed here for determining variable block values. Finally, in order to validate the model, it was implemented for Lucky Friday mine, USA, as a case study. The results were satisfying.
