Abstract

This study is aimed to assess the environmental impact of cast iron industries using TOPSIS and fuzzy TOPSIS techniques. For this purpose, Pars Saveh cast iron industries located 10 km north east from Saveh town was chosen as the case of this study. In this research, in assessing the environmental impact, TOPSIS and Fuzzy TOPSIS as multi-criteria decision models, were used. The results of ranking the impacts showed in both methods, air quality reduces with similarities index equals to 0.748 and CLi equals to 0.743, ground water level drops with similarities index equals to 0.737 and CLi equals 0.548 and sound level and vibration increases with similarities index equals to 0.732 and CLi 0.529. All three impacts with negative natures are ranked from the first to third.
In TOPSIS method, job creating and prosperity, with 0.436 in CLi, with the positive nature and respiratory disorders with CLi of 0.429 with negative nature and in F-TOPSIS, eye disease with similarity index equal to 0.732 and disruption in wild life migration with similarities index equals to 0.731 both with negative nature are ranked fourth and fifth. The advantage of TOPSIS in environmental impacts assessment is ranking the positives and the negatives impacts using different criteria. When judgments and opinion are vague and inaccurate, F-TOPSIS is the preferred technique.
