Abstract

In this research, upgrading of apatite from Urumia Qara-Aghaj poly metallic ore containing 2.5 % P2O5 by flotation was studied.
An experimental design method of central composite face-centered (CCF) was employed to evaluate the effectiveness of selected parameters in two levels as follows; the collector consumption of 300:1100 g/t , pH of 8.5 and 10.5, collector mixing ratio of 10 and 30 % and solid percent of 15 and 25. The results indicated the collector consumption is the most important parameter on the apatite recovery in the rougher and scavenger stages. An apatite concentrate having 7% P2O5 was obtained with 88 % recovery in following conditions; the collector consumption of 1100 g/t (the mixture of Procoll flo ys20 collectors and Linaz-20 collectors with 9:1 ratio ), solid percent of 20% and pH of 8.5. The flotation experiments were modelled by multi-level linear regression method with considering recovery and grade as responses. The recovery in the optimum condition of the model were estimated 88.5%. The recovery of validation test was 88.5% verifying high quality of the model. Additional experiments were carried out to increase P2O5 content of the final concentrate. The results indicated that maximum grade of P2O5 (32%) was obtained employing four stage cleaners and regrinding of rougher and scavenger concentrate. In the final flotation tests, the d80 of regrinding product was 40 micron and 400 g/t dextrin was used as depressant.
