Abstract

Carbonate formations such as Asmari, Ilam and Sarvak are among the most important hydrocarbon formations in Iran. Despite a lot of problems caused by geomechanical processes such as pipe stuck, lost circulation and sand production, there have not been carried out sufficient geomechanical studies to address such problems. Often the required data including DSI logs, leak-off test and mini-frac tests data as well as rock mechanics test on cores are not available in Iranian hydrocarbon formations to be used for construction of geomechanical models. In this study a geomechanical model for Bangestan reservoir (in well number 20 of Koopal Field) is constructed using well logs, rock mechanics test data, RFT data, mud loss data. A safe mud weight window is also proposed based on the geomechanicalmodel and wellbore stability analysis. The results of the model are validated against mud loss observations reported in drilling reports as well as caliper data.
