Evaluation of hydrocarbon potential Pabdeh Formation using Rock-Eval pyrolysis (well Soro 1)

Document Type : research - paper

Abstract

Rock–Eval pyrolysis has been widely used in the industry to determine the characteristics of sedimentary basins. The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the hydrocarbon generation power of Pabdeh formation using the Rock-Eval analysis in Soros -1 well in the area of Bandar Abbas. In order to evaluate hydrocarbon generation of Pabdeh formation as the probabale source rock, 25 core samples were collected  in the study area. The variation of S1 + S2 and TOC parameters show that Soros -1 Pabdeh well as the source rock has a good capacity for hydrocarbon generation. According to the diagram of HI versus Tmax of the formation,  kerogen content is mainly of type II and is deposited in a marine environment. Also investigation of Tmax reveal most of the samples from this formation have reached the thermal maturity by paasing the catagenesis point (Tmax higher than 435 ° C) and entered the oil.
