Mine tailing dams are the main environmental liability of mining industry and can cause many impacts on the environment. Heavy metals play a major role in the destruction and degradation of natural habitat and have harmful effects on the human health. In this study, the factors affecting the transfer of heavy metals from a solid to the liquid phase have been examined. Tank leaching tests were conducted and the results revealed that only vanadium has a high concentration among the heavy metals, at such a high pH, and the maximum transfer to the aqueous phase occurs at pH=12 , temperature of 60 ° C , time of 8 hours, and the solid/liquid ratio of 1. The maximum vanadium removal by activated carbon takes place at pH= 7, 6 hours’ time, and 0.6 carbon concentration.
